Surgeons Show Diversity through #ILookLikeASurgeon

Why is the hashtag, #ILookLikeASurgeon trending all over the world? Surgeons have decided to show diversity through #ILookLikeASurgeon on platforms like Twitter© and Instagram©. The stereotypical view of a surgeon is typically a confident male. Although there are more female surgeons today, the presence and equality is still lacking. To bring this issue to the public eye Dr. Heather Logghe has spun off the hashtag she saw in a blog post, #ILookLikeAnEngineer, by female engineer, Isis Wenger. Dr. Logghe created #ILookLikeASurgeon to represent successful female surgeons. The first hashtag appeared in mid-August and since has been used over 12,000 times. Dr. Logghe has started a sense of online community including both men and women supporting female healthcare professionals. See what people are posting with their hashtag, and join the trend yourself! To read more information on #ILookLikeASurgeon visit their website here.
